School Board Appreciation Month
The month of January marks the annual observance of School Board Recognition Month – a good time to salute the work of school board members and celebrate public education. Your locally elected board in Lafourche speaks out for public schools by ensuring our students have the opportunity to benefit from a high quality education. Their decisions and actions affect the present and future lives of our community’s children. Join us in celebrating School Board Recognition Month in Lafourche.
The new Lafourche Parish School Board members were sworn in on January 9, 2019 at the regular school board meeting. Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable John Weimer presided over the swearing in. New Magnet School to Open

Nicholls State University Magnet Program
Lafourche Parish School District in collaboration with Nicholls State University will offer 4th and 5th-grade students who reside in the Thibodaux school attendance zone a magnet learning opportunity beginning August 2019.
The Nicholls State University Magnet Program will be available through an application process for students who reside in the Thibodaux school attendance zone in grades 4 & 5 and have a final overall 3.0 GPA at the end of the school year. There will be 20 seats per grade level, and parents of eligible students will have to apply and be accepted in order to attend.
The program will offer standard educational courses with a college and career focus. It will be accelerated with enrichment opportunities such as:
· Project-based learning
· Academic field trips
· Academic contests/competitions
· Learning opportunities in collaboration with NSU
